The Holy Family - Jesus, the Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph - began to be celebrated officially in the 17th century by Francois de Laval the Blessed, the first Bishop of New France. It is celebrated by the Roman Catholic Church on the first Sunday after Christmas. If that day coincides with New Year’s Day, it is celebrated on December 30.
